Vultures are such uniquely beautiful creatures. Maybe not physically beautiful, but the way they’ve evolved to scavenge and resist diseases, and also that many cultures look to them as symbols of the afterlife.
Aloft on the jets of air pouring forth over the land, midday sun hot on our backs casting our image to the dry ground. Like a shadow squadron we soar in loops, watching and waiting for our opening. Scent of bone and blood fills the air in the descent. Holding wake, we preserve the transition, and in our mourning the cycle endures.
